PHOTO: REUTERS JAKARTA:  A brand new Indonesian Lion Air plane carrying 189 passengers and crew crashed into the sea Monday, officials said, moments after it had asked to be allowed to return to Jakarta. The Boeing-737 MAX, which went into service just months ago,  vanished from radar 13 minutes after taking off from the Indonesian capital, plunging into the Java Sea. Video footage apparently filmed at the scene of the crash showed a slick of fuel on the surface of the water. PHOTO: AFP LAHORE:  The remand of PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif was extended till November 7 on Monday by an accountability court in the Ashiana Housing Scheme case. The country’s top accountability watchdog had arrested the former Punjab chief minister over his alleged involvement in the multi-billion rupee housing scheme scam. Shehbaz was produced before accountability judge Anjumul Hasan amid heavy security. During the hearing, National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) prosecutor asserted that the bureau needed to detain the opposition leader for further investigation However, the defence counsel, comprising Advocate Amjad Pervaiz and Azam Nazir, objected to extending the remand. Banks’ ATM cardholders and online users, particularly those maintaining accounts at Bank Islami, need to become extra cautious while doing financial transactions. According to industry sources, ABL and JS Bank have also restricted ATM overseas transaction. In its immediate response to the security breach, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) temporarily “restricted usage of its cards for “overseas transactions (only),” the central bank said in a statement late on Sunday night. The principal of the prestigious institution, Alan Rusbridger, requested Khan to pay a visit to Oxford on Twitter and wrote, “Can we tempt you to (visit) Oxford University to talk to our students at Lady Margaret Hall( at the campus)? They love you.” To which, the 21-year-old, who has started her second academic year at the university, responded, “Still waiting!” The multi-award winner wrote back to Malala, “Most certainly would love to do it.
