DERA ISMAIL KHAN: One policeman was martyred in an attack carried out by terrorists in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ARY News reported. According to police officials, the terrorists attacked police camp near the toll plaza Dera Ismail Khan. A police spokesperson said that the exchange of fire continued for several hours followed by explosion sounds. KARACHI: Customs intelligence has unearthed the tax fraud worth Rs3.5 billion allegedly committed by a private company, ARY News reported on Friday. The Customs intelligence detected a Rs3.5 tax fraud in a company namely HSJI that cleared steel bars by deceiving Customs Collector Hyderabad without paying the taxes and duties. The Customs spokesperson said that the company would have faced fines, duties and taxes worth Rs3.5 billion. ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved a Rs. 8 billion bridge financing package for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Friday, ARY News reported. The financing will be provided through the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) resources to meet PIA’s urgent overdue payment obligations. The ECC allowed the Aviation Division to proceed with the bilateral arrangement between the CAA and PIA. The Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar presided over the meeting, according to news statement issued by the finance ministry. The caretaker minister made these remarks during a meeting with Afghan media delegation. The meeting discussed problems of Afghan journalists, visa issues and other important issues. Speaking during the meeting, Murtaza Solangi said that it was the responsibility of the media to identify the enemies of peace so that the state could defeat them. LAHORE: Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Additional Secretary General Aun Chaudhry landed in trouble for meeting PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif at airport, ARY News reported. According to the party’s spokesperson, the IPP has issued a show cause notice to its Additional Secretary General Aun Chaudhry in response to meeting Nawaz Sharif. The spokesperson said that an explanation has been sought from the party’s senior leader. IPP also dissociated itself from Aun Chaudhary’s meeting with former prime minister.
