Adnan Siddiqui's "Ghughi" makes waves in India!
We've been excited ever since Adnan Siddiqui announced he would be producing and acting in a period play under his production house banner Cereal Entertainment. Titled Ghughi, the drama is an adaptation of the Bollywood film Pinjar the starred Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpaye and Sanjay Suri and was based on Amrita Pritam’s famous novel of the same name.
Ghughi stars Adnan Siddiqui and Hamza Firdous in the lead while it is introducing budding actress Amar Khan as the female protagonist. Recently, The Indian Express also did an important piece on the drama and revealed the release date as well. "Pakistani TV serial on Amrita Pritam’s Pinjar to air on Republic Day eve," read the headline and mentioned that Ghughi was all set to release on the 25th of January on TV One.
With the relationship strained between the two countries after the Uri Attacks there has been a ban on Pakistani artists in India. Although people across the border are huge fans of Pakistani dramas and artists here, none has been able to make waves in India after the incident. However, now it seems Ghughi is set to challenge the situation as the play is already making headlines in prominent newspapers in the country. The Indian Express interview also mentioned how the hour-long episodes would be uploaded on the Internet by 10 pm IST every Thursday within half an hour of its telecast in Pakistan.
Talking about the play with the leading daily Adnan said, “Ghughi will make people on both sides of the man-made border gravitate to their roots. It is not just about the horror of partition, two nations and religions. Primarily, the series talks about human beings and their emotions, which suffered at the hands of a few decision-makers."
With Adnan Siddiqui also having wooed the audience in the Bollywood movie Mom where he played Sridevi's husband, we are glad to see Ghughi maybe become that hope that ties India and Pakistan together as Adnan also said, “Sharing this same agony, culture, literature and heritage, it is upon us to share some great content on both sides of the border and grow as beautiful independent nations which once had an intense affair.”
With Ghughi all set to air from 25th January only on TV One at 8 pm this is a play which both India and Pakistan will be watching with keen eyes and we for one couldn't be more happier for the entire team.
